Black Men of Middle Tennessee, Incorporated
The 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee, Inc.
is a non-profit organization engaged in providing
resources to further the academic and social
development of students in Nashville and surrounding
Middle Tennessee schools. It is a member-based
organization comprised of business and industry
leaders who invest both time and financial
resources to accomplish the organization's
mission "to nurture and enhance the growth,
development and opportunities for young Black
males of Middle Tennessee."
The organization was chartered as the 13th
affiliate of 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
in 1991. It is part of a growing consortium
across America recognizing that America's most
precious resource is its youth. Accordingly,
as part of its services, the organization provides
resources associated with developing academically
sound students; pairing students with mentors;
preparing them for roles of leadership; and
working to improve social behaviors.
The 100 seeks to:
- Continue supporting the holistic development
of our youth
- Enhance the quality and impact of current
initiatives
- Establish new, creative initiatives that
positively impact our youth
- Increase collaborations with organizations
with similar missions
We strive to counter the many negative statistics
most frequently associated with Black male
youth. This group of Americans is frequently
rated the lowest in critical areas including
literacy, academic achievement, self-esteem,
and positive lifestyle choices. The 100 is
committed to maximizing the talents and gifts
of Black male youth with what we call our “4
E’s to Success:” Education, Exposure,
Experience and Encouragement.
Membership in the organization is open to
African-American men who subscribe to the mission
and who meet both the ethical and moral criteria
established by the organization.
